Alyssa had her first class and it went about as well as she could have hoped. She had no students that were like her so her class took on the role of therapy more than actual teaching. Her gift could cancel out the gifts of others even some of the gifts from demigods so when she flexed her gift the students felt..normal. Alyssa had talked with them individually and shared her experience with her gift no matter how hard it was to tell her story. She had spoken with three girls who were blossoming with their gifts and one boy who was not. He was very troubled and it had seemed like his powers were taking over him.
Alyssa worried about him, but there was nothing more she could do other than talk with him, and encourage him. She wondered how some of the kids delt with the powers they had. Some were so gifted that they could sontrol lightening and see the dead. She didn't even want to think about the kind of stress that accompanied having other's lives in your hand. Her gift suited her well, it made others weak yes...but it usually helped in the long run. Alyssa had walked from her first class to the lunch room.
Lunch room was not an accurate representation. The hall was huge and they seemed to have atleast five main courses to choose from that seemed like they were right from the pages of some food magazine. She choose a simple grilled chicken salad and took a seat at the teacher table at the front. She took a few bites and knew that she wouldn't be able to finish it, she was still too tense from her class. Instead she scanned her eyes over the crowd watching the kids.

It seemed impossible, it probably was impossible, but there was nothing better than forcing herself to do the impossible. When her body wanted to say no, her mind said yes. It was her weakness, a desire to be perfect. Chloe had that problem, but it was in her blood. Golden blood was flowing in her veins, her mother was Athena after all. Not that she ever talked to the goddess, but her father used to tell Chloe that she was more like Athena than she thought. The competition, the eagerness to win, the smarts, it was all there. He said that they even shared the same smile. But that was then, Chloe hadn’t seen her father in years, since she left France and started teaching here, at the gifted school. At first, she was hesitant, but after a while, the competition was nice. No human could give Chloe the real test she wanted, human were nice enough though, but demigods, the gifted, they were a challenge. And Chloe loved challenges.
Being the daughter of Athena, Chloe was more than qualified to teach and train. The students here were all powerful, and at many times reminded Chloe of that. She could give no relief to the students who worried about bursting into flames or suddenly flooding the dorms. She could, however, find ways to help control it. Strategies were one of Chloe’s strong points, and often worked with students to help them realize that they didn’t have to be afraid. It was nice to work with those who seemed to have a permanent look of fear or pain in their eyes and have them feel relief.
Chloe walked out of the classroom and waited for the bells for lunch, when they rang, her stomach growled on cue. The thought of food was great and she made her way to the lunch room with the others. There was soup today, although she wasn’t sure what kind. Some of the Demigod chefs came up with wonderful and bizarre creation that tasted better than they looked. Today was that day. Looking for a place to sit, Chloe saw Allysa Barnes, a fellow teacher, one that had the ability of power negation, and someone she worked with on occasion to help those who couldn’t control their abilities.
”Good morning Allysa,” Chloe smiled, hoping to somewhat conceal her heavy French accent to make her speech easy to understand.

Alyssa smiled as Chloe had spoken to her. She had worked with Chloe once, she was called in to help a student who was having problems. Alyssa was only happy with her powers when they were used to help. She didn't like to think about the affects that she could have, the things that others could do. Alyssa enjoyed helping though and thankfully the students at the school needed her. That thought was refreshing..being needed. The other school she had taught at was wonderful, but she was not needed. The students had to have someone to guide them, but she could easily be replaced..here she provided a service that a rare few could. She could make them normal, feel safe..at least the gifted ones felt safe.
Alyssa had tried her gift on a demigod and although her power had worked it was not at all as powerful to the demigods as it was to the gifted kids. The demigod was a son of Athena and he said that when he felt her gift take over he had a harder time focusing, but it was still possible. The student had remarked that it was interesting, but had said that he would not do it again. She would never use her gift on a student that did not ask for her to, unless it was for the student's safety or the safety of others.
Alyssa smiled at the other teacher and took a bite of her salad. It was very good, but her nerves were not about to let her enjoy it. There was just so much to take in, so much to think about.
" Hello Chloe, how are you?"
