The only downside to making a crossbow weapon with catapult like properties that fit in your hands is that the arrows themselves were expensive. They needed to be more than just arrows. These had special properites that could spontaneously combust or freeze or release snakes, whatever. Allisabeth had spent the last two months trying to make them perfect and she was stupid enough to use those arrows while testing her new crossbow weapon. Allie cursed herself for being so foolish. Originally, she was going to do some quick target practice in the woods, so people wouldn't see her newest toy. She was just going to shoot the trees. Trees so big and durable that there was no way regular arrows could hurt them. However, she was no daughter of Apollo and no matter how much experience she had with bows, this crossbow had enough kick to it to send the largest monster on it's back. Allie flew back several feet from the kick of the shot.
Now, it was embarrassing. There Allie was, wondering around the woods with a large crossbow slung on her back, searching for those lost arrows. She needed to find them, end of story. They weren't even done, so they wouldn't detonate or anything, but it had taken her forever to make the five of them in the first place. She hoped that she could find them before someone found her, but luck was never really on her side.

Adam had just gotten out of his last class and decided after an hour long test, that he needed some quiet time. The Academy was not a slacker school the students here were blessed beyond all means of the normal mortal kid's thoughts so why wouldn't the classes be a hundred times harder? Adam could handle the extra coursework, he easily took it in stride but sometimes he just needed time to wind down a little. Adam had originally walked to the lake. When Adam first arrived the water was calm and the scene was peaceful.,Within the first twenty minutes of being there some kids from Zeus had decided to warm up the water so everyone was splashing in it.
Adam enjoyed the water, but not today and not right now. His mind needed somewhere quiet to be alone and think. His eyes drifted to the woods and he thought about resisting. There was no telling what was roaming around in the woods. The Academy was built for safety, but in the woods the boundary line could easily be crossed without realizing it. Sometimes students wandered off, and never came back. Adam shrugged and started taking the worn-out path that roamed through the giant oaks.
Adam was certain that if he stayed relatively close to the path then he would be fine. He walked along pressing his jacket a bit tighter to his skin to ward off some of the chill from the wind. The season was turning and the air was certainly a testament to that. While he was walking something caught his eye. Directly to his left was something sticking in a tree. It looked at first glance like an arrow, but it wasn't..atleast he thought it wasn't. Adam walked to the tree and pulled it out. The creation did seem to fit the common look of an arrow but it was anything but common. The tips ot the arrow was crimson red, and seemed to faintly glow. The rod was made of some metal that he couldn't name and the lines on the ends were the most different. They were melted together in a way that seemed almost too perfect as if a machine built to make those lines couldn't have made it as perfect. He knew where this perfection came from and a smile came across his face: Allisabeth.
Adam didn't have to walk long until he spotted her. She was a sight to see: beautiful, and with a huge deadly weapon slung over her back. Adam leaned against the nearest tree and spoke
" Missing Something?"

It had taken Allie a little under an hour to find three of her arrows. If she had known the extent of distance she could get with the crossbow, she may have been fine practicing in the demigod training area, granted, the targets may have been destroyed in the process, but it would have been quite a show. Maybe after she was finished perfecting the bow, she would hand it over to an Apollo kid, see what those archers could do.
In the woods, Allie knew she had to watch her step. Some of the kids put markers to tell where the boundary line was, those who went past it usually never came back. That was at least several hundred feet ahead and Allie made a point not to shoot in that general direction. The wind gave a bit of a chill, Allie rubbed her hands together and blew into her cupped palms. A benefit of being a child of Hephaestus, fire control, kept her warm in almost any situation.
"Missing something?" A voice carried though the wind. Allie turned to see Adam Michaels leaning very nonchalantly against a nearby tree, with one of her arrows in his hand. It was her only explosion arrow, possibly the hardest one to make. A smile grew on her lips. Adam was her friend, wait, correction... Adam was her best friend. The dark haired, blue eyed gifted boy was her closest friend. Adam was so nice, Allie could open up to him about anything, and the best part was that she could never hurt him. Power Negation, his gift from Ares, Allie thought it was the best power in the world. To be able to shut off a power... it amazed Allie even more than her mechanical genius. She had a bad habit, sometimes her power over came her, and she knew she could hurt someone, but with Adam, there was no chance of that.
And it helped that he was incredibly handsome. "Uh... maybe just a few things," Allie smiled, undoing the strap of the crossbow from her back and laying it on the ground. She ran up to Adam and hugged him, taking the arrow from his hand. "Let's just say that the bow has more of a punch than i expected. And I was stupid enough not to realize that I was using my special arrows and I lost them all." Allie shrugged. She had a habit of losing things, Adam knew that, her room was a disaster, everything was all over the place. But with the one you found, that makes only one missing arrow left," She pulled the three arrows she found from her back pocket, two ice and a shadow arrow, compliments of the Hades kids.

Adam watched as Allisabeth turned sharply, she had looked deadly and not just because of the large weapon on her back. Her piercing blue eyes had snapped to where the sound was and Adam couldn't help but feel his heart momentarily stop when those stunning eyes met his own. Adam had to fight the urge to look away, something so beautiful was not meant to be held by something so well...normal. Adam was as average as average got. His power was pretty impressive but could only be used up to an hour and although he had never used it that long he was pretty sure he would be jello after that. Adam usually didn't use his power unless he was threatened, or unless he was around Allisabeth.
Allisabeth was always worried about hurting him and others so it helped when he could cancel out her powers..at least the deadly ones. Adam had watched as a smile came over her face and she ran to hug him. He held her in his arms and for the nine millionth time mentally recorded the moment. He knew it was wrong, he knew it was a silly wish but he couldn't help it. From the moment they met the two hit it off and soon became best friends. Over time, while watching her in the arms of other men something changed and Adam started to view Allisabeth as something different..something more.
Adam would never tell a soul however, and knew that's the way it would stay. There was not a chance in Hades that he would ever admit his feelings and ruin their friendship. He smiled and looked again at the arrow.
" well I knew it had to be yours, nobody around here could make something so...twisted and diabolical." Adam grinned playfully and looked around the woods. " well I guess we should get to looking then, what does this one look like?" Adam began to take a step forward and then paused." Its not going to blow up or anything...right?"

There was always something... special in Allie's heart when it came to Adam. Be it his smile, or his eyes, or the fact that he was just always there with open arms, so many things that made him perfect. There were many times that Allie wished they had something more, that Allie and Adam were more than just the good friends that everyone sees. But, then again, Allie had seen and been in those kinds of relationships, if one thing went wrong, there was no way to fix it. Allie didn't want something to go wrong. She didn't want to lose him like she had some others. Allie brought her mind back to reality and looked at Adam.
She smiled at his comment. "No, it shouldn't. I never activated these arrows. Theoretically, they are safe," There is no guarantee that nothing had been damaged in the arrows and that they wouldn't go off, but with out being activated or charged, the damage caused by it would be minimal... she hoped. "Well, the last one looks the same except the tip of it is yellow instead of red. It's an electricity based arrow," Allie took a look around, trying to remember the direction that it flew in. She knew it was probably dangerously close to the border. "It should be over there," Allie pointed. If they ended up getting to close to the border, Allie could just leave the arrow. The electric arrow was easier to make than the fire or ice arrows, it was all a matter of a power source. If anything, this was a great time for Allie to catch up with Adam. She saw him everyday, but she felt like she rarely spent real time with him anymore.
Allie picked up the crossbow and strapped it back on, just in case they ran into something. "So what have you been up to? We haven't talked in a while."

Adam couldn't help but smirk as she mentioned that it shouldn't detonate. Oh the crazy things we do for love happened to pop into his head. Things like searching for arrows that could kill in seconds in woods that were boundaries to sure death. Neither of those ideas sounded like they would come from sane individuals but it was just another day for Adam. From the moment he had met Allisabeth things had been one crazy ride. From sneaking out of dorms to perfect her latest torture device..er..arrow. To the times when he teamed up with her for chariot races...never again. He had taken it all in stride, Adam felt thankful that a girl like Allisabeth even spoke to him much less was his best friend.
When Adam saw her point to the boundary he sighed a little and began to walk towards the direction she pointed. There was a little red flag marker on the ground maybe seventy or so feet from them and he was praying they would find the arrow before they got any closer. They were safe until they passed the marker...true it wasn't as if they would get immediately electrocuted or anything, but things had been known to patrol the fences just waiting for one stupid kid to step out of bounds.
" Oh you know, same ole same ole. I aced my history test of course. " He knew she was probably thinking of the word nerd but he continued. " Oh I heard there was a teacher that has the same gift as me so that's pretty cool. I think the first class starts Monday." He was ecstatic when he heard there was someone else with the same powers as he had, and it made it even better when it was a teacher. " What about you? "
Adam glanced over at Allisabeth noting the way that her hair moved around her face like a model on a runway, and the way she looked fierce and determined as hell to get her arrow back. He forced himself to look away and prepared for the information that she would give him. He prepared because usually it was talk of a boy she had just met which Adam couldn't blame her for. She had the looks of a grecian goddess, how could he not hear about guys wanting to date her?

Allie always made a point to listen to Adam. Nothing was better actually. There was always something sincere in his voice. It had always been like that. Her mind went back to the first day they met, her first day she came to the university. He was a year older than her, she only just turned 17 a few weeks ago. Allie remembered just walking aimlessly around the school during a free period, not sure where to go or what to do... and she ran right into him. All of her stuff spilled out and from that point on, she basically clung to him. He was a bit confused about it at first, but she wasn't nervous around him, in fact, from the moment she met him Allie was comfortable. As their friendship grew, so did her affection. He was the first one she went to for anything, the first one for her to choose to help try things out... like her newest inventions. Even if things didn't go down well, Allie preferred to talk to him about things rather than go to any of her female friends. She never really knew why....
Allie watched Adam as he talked rather than look for the arrow. "Ms. Barnes? Yeah, she seems nice, I wonder what she's teaching, maybe we'll have a class together," Then she would have someone to study with... and spending time with Adam would be awesome as well. "Nothing much has happened with me lately. No epic adventures or crazy stories. I've just been working on different projects lately..." She decided to take a break from chariot racing for a while, since last time when something blew up. Allie wasn't sure what it was, but she was pretty certain it was her fault...
"Oh and i got a new car," Allie just remembered, she finally got enough cash to buy it from the scrap pile... it was in pretty rough shape, the only thing in tact was the frame and it needed a bad paint job, but it would be a good project for her. "A first generation, 1969 Camero. It's blue," She loved cars. Adam did too, one of the many reasons why they bonded so well. There weren't many daughters of Hephaestus to share this love of mechanics with.
She was about to go on about what she needed to do with it when her eyes caught something. Up, stuck high in a tree, was the arrow! Too high for them to reach, it was at least ten feet up the tree. "There! The arrow," She pointed. "You are going to have to pick me up to get it."

Adam had been excited at the thought of the teacher, but when Allisabeth mentioned joining him in the class he couldn't help but feel his heart sink. Adam was not muscular, he was not gifted in the arts or war, there was not much he could offer expecially to a girl like Allisabeth. The only thing he had was the gift that made her normal. His gift made her safe, made her feel secure and comfortable he knew that he was the only one in the world who could give that to her..atleast he thought. If there were other people who could do what he did then she wouldn't need him anymore. He would just be another boy. Adam had never said so but after meeting Allisabeth he had known that the sole reason for his gift was for her, and he was happy with that.
When Allisabeth mentioned the car Adam;s face lit up like a child at christmas time. Adam was not usually the type who liked going fast, and adrenaline but he did love cars. He loved the feeling of feeling the car accelarate underneath his fingers. He loved being in control of something so powerful. He immediately jumped into the questions.
" Are you serious!?! Where did you find it? What does it need? What color is it? Whats the interior?!?"
He tried to contain himself, but these things just didn't happen to him. He was lucky to see that type of car in a magazine much less have it close enough to touch. While he waited for Allisabeth to answer his questions he got down on one knee and held his hands open to her to stand in. It was child's play to lift her, and by now he could do it in his sleep. They had used this little manuever to capture many a flag and sneak into many dorms after hours. He couldn't help but murmur a small
" Just be carefull ok?" OOC: SO SO SO sorry its taken me this long

Allie loved how Adam got super excited over mention of her car. She couldn't help but laugh at how bright his eyes got and how wide his smile was. Even the rush of questions that could only be compared to a boy asking what he was getting for his birthday was lovely. "You are just going to have to wait and see it, but don't get your hopes up, right now its a piece of junk."
Allie got into the familiar position of Adam holding her up at a height. Whether it was sneaking in after curfew, or getting into something that they really shouldn't, it was easy. He was strong and luckily, Allie wasn't a hefty girl. Just like always too, Adam uttered a small "just be careful, ok?" It was all that was needed to reach the height of the arrow. Allie just carefully touched the arrow and made sure not to twist it, or the head would get stuck in the wood, all it needed was a smooth pull out. And she got it. Carefully examining the tip, nothing was damaged... good, the last thing they needed was an electrical storm in their hands. The neck of the arrow was firmly in her hand and started to get down, just like she would. A strong breeze however, knocked her down and she landing in Adam's arms.
Allie threw her head back in laughter, there was just that rush of adrenaline from falling. "Nice catch.

Adam had smirked when Allisabeth spoke about the car like it was nothing big. Adam was always amazed at what she could create and come up with. Adam had never been too mechanically gifted other than being able to change a tire and put gas in the car. Adam had watched as she climbed the tree stealthily and took out the arrow. From below her he could see the gleaming piece of metal and it was clear on why she had wanted to find this particular one. The arrow emitted a sense of deadly power and he could tell she must have worked weeks on it. Those weeks should have been months to a normal person, but not to his Allisabeth.
Adam was about to lower her to the ground when a big gust of wind came and she lost her footing. Adam had reacted quickly and caught her before she caught the ground. He smiled when she said nice catch and he couldn't help but laugh a little.
" No problem, what are friends for other than catching their demigod friends while they were trying to pull a deadly electrical weapon out of a giant tree...kid stuff right?"
Adam smiled and couldn't help but take in every second of holding her. Holding Allisabeth was like a drug to him. Her flawless face was mere inches from his, and he could smell her soft scent of..perfume? lotion? He wasn't sure, but it was light and airy and it made him happy. That was it..she made him happy. There was just something about holding her, she was always so tough and fierce, when he held her it was almost as if he could pretend that she needed him. Adam slowly let her down and tried to shake off those thoughts...they were not going to happen and there was no point in torturing himself.

Breathless. That what it was. Allie felt breathless in his arms. There was something in his eyes, something that she wasn't familiar with. His blue eyes seemed so clear now, but something was swimming in them. He let her down, but she held his gaze. Maybe he wasn't acting like it, but there seemed to be something up with her best friend. Allie looked down and counted the arrows in her hand. That was it, all five of her arrows were found. There was no reason to be in the woods now.
"I guess we should be heading back now," Allie exhaled. Something about her didn't want to go back to campus. She didn't want to be caught up in the dorms, or the grounds. The woods offered some relief, no one was out there... ever. The fact that Adam had found her was a solid fact that he was looking for something else to do too. Maybe it was just that time of year, but Allie was feeling restless. Maybe it was tension on campus, but it was getting worse. Something needed to happen, Allie needed to relax, but nothing was really doing it now. Maybe she just needed some time to unwind off campus grounds, maybe in town... or something.
"So I just had the greatest idea," Allie turned to Adam with a smile. "We should go out tonight.

Adam hadn't realized that he was holding his breath until her gaze fell from his. The small shock of having her eyes upon him had turned him into a deer in headlights. Adam wondered what she was thinking and was very thankful that Allisabeth couldn't hear this thoughts. Things were better this way, torture yes..but better for their friendship. Adam watched as she counted all of the arrows. He vaguely wondered what else she had in the works. Adam had stopped being surprised over the strange things that came in and out of town. Since Adam had arrived at the school he had seen everything from love potions to rubber bullets that would literally lock onto a target and chase them until they finally struck. Strange things like that made capture the flag that much more interesting...
When Allisabeth mentioned going out Adam wasn't too sure on the idea. There was lots of danger going out beyond the school's doors, plus there was no telling what sort of trouble they would get into. Adam couldn't help but grin as Allisabeth smiled a smile that made his heart stop. How could he let her go alone? Plus it had been a long time since he felt the freedom of an open town. He shrugged and smiled
" Alright...how about the dance club.?" Adam glanced at his watch which read the time as almost ten. Everything is just getting started there..." plus it would give me an excuse to grind against you while we dance...no..shake those thoughts adam...he glanced over at her

Allie hadn't been to the club in forever. Literally, she hadn't gone there in months. Normally she went with some guy, whatever guy that she would be dating at the time. She hadn't gone with Adam yet, which would be interesting. The last time she went, Allie had felt some guy getting a little fresh with her and it so happened that his drink had lit up in flames as he sipped it. Safe to say that he left the club with the hospital as his destination. That wouldn't happen this time. Adam was protective of her, so this night would prove interesting.
"Alright, its a date," Allie confirmed this. Allie name sure to have all the arrows and crossbow across her back and they made their way to the edge of the woods, where the real campus began. She needed to take her equipment back and put all of her tools away. It was a bit of a pet peeve for the rest of her cabin. Allie wasn't the most organized person and right now, they laid all around her room. "Tell you what. I need to get some stuff together. Why don't I meet you there?" Not to mention the fact that she needed to grab a dancing outfit. Maybe she would raid the Aphrodite cabin for something fun. She had a few friends there, and they loved to dress her up. She eyed the grounds from the edge of the woods, with her sight set on the Hephaestus Cabin.
"See ya,"Allie smiled softly and waved, and started to make her way across the grounds.

Adam counted the seconds until she responded. There was a small war going on inside him, was the offering of going to the club too forward? Sure, they had been there before, but it was with a large group maybe without their friends she thought it too..intimate. Adam was about to make an excuse to get out of the situation when she smiled and agreed. Allisabeth had said she needed to get things together and Adam nodded.
There were not too many things he had to do, a quick shower, some decent clothes and he was out the door in fifteen minutes. Adam was never one to take his time in getting ready, he really didn't see the point. " Alright sounds good, see you there."
As Allisabeth walked away he watched her for a moment and then took off for his cabin. Adam had choosen to take up the cabin of the God who gave him his gift: Ares. While at first that seemed like a wrong move...there was nothing worse than a mortal who couldn't fight around the very kids who were born for it. Things had slowly begun to work out and settle into a nice arrangement, he would never use his powers on them and they would not kill him in his sleep..or otherwise.
