There were girls with no people skills, and then there were girls who just failed at being a female with any sort of relationship future. Melody Moreau, definitely fell in to the latter category. Shuffling her feet at the corner of the cafetaria, she picked at her lunch, her head bent to allow her gold hair to form a curtain around her features.
She would take short furtive glances over at a table at another corner, where a child of Hades sat, before going back to twirling her fork around her pasta furiously. Really, one would think she was afraid of boys!
Which wasn't really too far off their mark, honestly speaking. But Melody would like to believe she's better now then back in high school. Of course, back then everyone stared at her like she was a freak, just because the music she could play was hauntingly enchanting. But now that she's here, shouldn't the people here understand her? Wasn't that why Melody came here in the first place? Then why was she still shying away?
Running a hand through her blonde hair, the girl chanced a look up at the entrance leading to the cafetaria, pursing her lips when she didn't see a familiar, egoistial best friend of hers. Where was he anyway? Didn't he say he wanted to help her with something? [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Ah. The cafeteria. One of the places in this Academy that Kirk frequented the most. Obviously, he was drawn here by the food, which was relatively cheap, and delicious. Then again, he wasn’t exactly picky, and they served large portions here, so… Yup. Kirk was a loyal customer.
But he wasn’t here for food, at least, that wasn’t his primary reason for going here. No, he was here to help a certain blonde, clumsy friend for a little… project. Yes. That’s a good word for it. After all, they have to do some investigation, experimentation. He can just imagine them in those clean, white, lab coats, complete with magnifying glasses held right over the eyes as they scoured the Academy for that perfect guy.
He chuckled quietly as he walked through the doors and into the warmth of the cafeteria. That previous image was hilarious, and it would be epic if that ever came into fruition. Highly unlikely though. Melody would want to do that as subtly as possible, whereas he’d probably yell around, leading her by the hand as they traipsed around the Academy looking for suitors.
Spotting her wasn’t difficult at all. Head bowed down, golden locks covering her face, looking furtively for someone… Yup. That’s her alright. He walked to her quickly, a casual smile on his face, the perfect picture of confidence. He hoped she was taking notes.
Kirk then sat opposite her, immediately noticing her bowl of pasta. Yum… “Can I have that?” He immediately queried, unable to stop himself. After a moment, he cleared his throat, and started to talk again. “Ahem… So. How’s the little princess doing?” He asked, smiling at her as he looked around. A few possible targets… He leaned forward, so that his face was right in front of hers, and he was grinning madly, like some child who was just about to play with his favourite toy. “Find. Anyone. Yet?”

To tell the truth, Melody's never told him why she was so averse to boys. Kirk was probably the first guy she's even been this close to. Thank heaven's for Hera and her gift for empathy, but it did help Melody in getting at ease around the guy. He knew when to stop and when he could go on, mainly because he could easily sense whenever Melody was getting uncomfortable. So yes, the girl was really greatful for having a friend like Kirk, yet it also made her wonder just how was she ever going to find another guy like him, if only to consider dating. How about Kirk, you ask? Don't ask, Melody didn't even want to think about it.
Whether or not it was because she looked at Kirk as a brother, or just for reasons Melody preferred not to probe, either way she's never given that much thought before actually. Perhaps it was because she'd rather keep the friendship then make anything between them awkward, but Melody would just prefer not to broach the subject. The friendship between them was something the blonde haired girl would not risk turning sour.
Picking at her pasta sparingly, barely touching the mere surface of her lunch, she turned her hazel eyes up when she heard a familiar voice. Making a face, she pushed the plate at him, cutleries and all. "Help yourself. Haven't you had lunch yet?" she asked, out of habit. But then again, it was a redundant question, since Kirk was probably the biggest eater out of anyone she's known.
Hearing his question, she lay her chin on her arms crossed on the table. "Miserable." Melody muttered, her eyes flickering over towards a couple of other guys, before back at him as he spoke once more, and just shrugged nonchalantly as a reply to his question. But the thing was, Melody found it sort of... cold blooded, the way she was practically 'shopping' for a guy. How could she? Wasn't a relationship something you gradually fell in to? But then again, the way Melody practically ran away from guys, 'gradually falling for someone' isn't exactly something likely to happen to her. "So what was it you wanted to help me with? Definitely, not geometry. I think you need more help with that." she teased, but it was a half-hearted one, as she went back to staring at the tabletop sluggishly. It was just one of those days where Melody felt she was doomed to a spinster future, with 20 cats and five budgies.

“Thanks, I'm starving.” Kirk replied when she pushed the pasta to him. He knew she’d give it to him. The dish itself was penne pasta, with a light olive oil sauce and shrimps. It looked simple yet delicious. Kirk wasn’t much of a cook, but he used to enjoy watching those cooking shows on the television. The food looked absolutely wonderful, and he always had a growling stomach by the time an episode finished.
Eagerly putting his hands on the edge of the plate, he pulled it closer to him, seeing that it had barely been picked at. No wonder. Mel really didn’t eat a whole lot, and when she did, it was always so slow, dignified, and ladylike. A total departure from how he ate, which included stuffing as much as he can in his mouth, then chewing and swallowing as quickly as possible. Rinse and repeat.
“’Course I’ve had lunch.” He said as if it was obvious, before digging in. He speared a few pieces of pasta and shrimp and ate. Excellent. As he chewed, he thought about how they shared the plate and fork. With a slight shrug, he figured that he didn’t care really. They were close enough that they considered each other as family, and family had no qualms about sharing things like these, right? Barely seconds passed before he opened his empty mouth again, and this time, there was a mischievous grin on his lips.
“You do know that we’re shared an indirect kiss…” Kirk smirked, leaning forward, very close to her while he whispered. Then he pulled back and chuckled, before eating more pasta. He always enjoyed teasing Mel, even though it seemed very immature. It was all good fun, and, what the heck, the close contact with a boy could help her with her little problem.
Taking a few more mouthfuls as she slumped on the table, looking extremely miserable indeed as she uttered the single word, Kirk couldn’t help but to feel a tiny bit sorry for her. He knew that she believed she was doomed to be alone forever; after all, she always reacted very badly whenever he teased her using that line. But it was only a matter of time before she got her first guy.
“Aww…” He murmured in sympathy, patting her hair gently as she had a weak attempt at teasing him. “Really need help with that. I got terrible marks in the last test.” Kirk replied, riding along with the joke. Staring at her as she looked totally lifeless, her head on the tabletop, Kirk continued to eat for a few moments, before he got fed up and decided to go ahead and start.
“Come on Princess, pick yourself up!” He said, nudging her forearm. “Tell you what, we’ll go out tonight. Have some fun to cheer you up!” He added, before taking another bite of the pasta. No, he wasn’t asking her out on a date, at least, not exactly. He thought that she needed to perk up a bit, and that she needed to open up a bit more before they went guy hunting. Maybe they could go to the mall and eat in one of the restaurants there, as he doubted that she’d let him take her to the Il Baccia Mortale. Well, it was now beginning to sound like a date, but Kirk had no intention. Maybe a tiny little bit, but no. He was doing all of this to help her…
“We’ll have dinner, and then we can go around town. It’ll be a mock date.” Kirk finished seriously, cleaning up the last few pieces of penne on the plate. “What do you say?”
[OOC: if you want, that could be the time when they hear about the rumors from a fellow student in a restaurant, then he’ll drag her over back to the school to sniff around? Then everything’ll follow~]

Rolling her eyes mockingly, Melody shook her head in a rueful manner as he attacked her half-eaten pasta with gusto. Since when was he ever not starving seemed to be the preferable question here, since Kirk seemed to be someone who perpetually ate anyway. But she had grown used to it over the couple of months they had spent together, so watching him literally shove food down his throat wasn't all that freaky to do anymore. Melody had always been a slow eater, too slow sometimes. Her old, small group of friends had complained she ate worst then a rat, but it was a habit Melody was hard pressed to get rid off. You try to make her eat fast, and she'll just throw everything up the next hour.
Thing is, Melody was comfortable enough with Kirk, yet when he leaned forward, her automatic instinct was to lean forward. Adding up all her increase in heartbeat and pulse to how she was averse to men, Melody quickly ignored how her palms turned sweaty and scowled at him as he finally pulled back, chuckling. "Was not funny, Dorrans." the girl growled, before placing her head on her arms again. Teasing was all fine and good, but Melody didn't like how she reacted. Foreign, odd, and definitely not how she should react around her best friend.
Not even glancing up at him as he offered his sympathy to her, the blonde haired girl managed a feeble, half-hearted laugh at his going along with her joke. What surprised her though, was how he suddenly jumped up, and then nudged her in turn. Picking her head off the table, she widen her eyes at his suggestion. "Out?" she echoed, sounding for the world like a parrot. But for the life of her, Melody's hardly stepped out of campus ever since she started attending the university. For one, the girl couldn't be bothered, and for another, she wasn't all that adventurous herself.
When he mentioned how it was going to be a mock date though, Melody gave a skeptical look. To get her used to the idea? Well, she supposed there would be no harm in that. Giving a non-comittal shrug, she spoke. "Alright, why not?." Looking down at her jeans and simple cotton shirt though, she pursed her lips, and then back at Kirk. "Should I change? Or can I roll around in bed in these until dinnertime?" she asked, in all seriousness. Because honestly, even if she had to change, the gifted girl didn't really have much other selections to change in to. Shrugging again, she grinned. "I'll dig around in my cupboard. Dinner at the pizza parlor!" she grinned.
ooc;; alright! that sounds good. xD

Rolling his eyes at her, Kirk tried to hide the slight crease in his ice cool demeanour when she leaned forward, right back at him when he teased her. “Yes it was. You should’ve seen your face.” Kirk said quickly, brushing it off with a sudden, if a bit hurtful, remark. He had to admit, he didn’t expect that she’d lean right back at him, and he had found himself staring at her eyes, hazel and pretty, the whole time when their noses had been only centimetres away. He thought that she’d pull back away from him, or maybe even slap him, but definitely not lean forward. They were so close they almost… No.
The sound of a weak laugh brought him back to the world of the living. Thank the gods for lame jokes. He would’ve been in a sticky situation if he had been caught staring at her like an idiot with his mouth hanging open. That just wouldn’t do. He had a reputation to live up to, after all, he thought with a slight grin.
Kirk then continued to watch her as she began to show some life, some excitement, some enthusiasm, at his idea. Great. “Yes, yes.” He replied after she repeated his words. With a slight wave of his hand, he continued, “I know you’ve never set one foot outside this place, but there’s a real whole, wide world out there!” He said this quietly at first, before building in volume and excitement as he went on, until reaching an exclamation at the last few words, as if there was a huge wonder just right outside. That wonder would be the mall, of course.
“Good.” Kirk said, nodding in approval at her decision to come with him. Not that he would’ve taken “no” for an answer, but if the victim, erm, specimen… patient, whatever, went willingly, well, that made it a bit easier. Eyeing her as she talked about clothes, Kirk thought that she looked nice enough, casual in jeans and a shirt. Perfect for a day out really. “Change? No time. We’re going right now.” Kirk said, his eyes sparkling. He had to admit, he was getting rather excited with this idea.
Grabbing her hand as he said, “Not just dinner, Princess. We should have a snack first!”, Kirk pulled her up and out, away from the cafeteria. He had a fleeting thought that she would totally kill him for pulling her like that. Still, they left the plate that they had shared right there on the table as they hurried away, an excited look of Kirk's face.
