It was evening, the sun slowly touching the horizon with a gentle balmy, not overly cold breeze that grazed the training grounds for the gifted ones, as Melody stepped on the earthy soil. Cladded in a simple pair of shorts, and a black shirt, her blonde hair was tossed haphazardly as another gust of wind picked up its golden strands. Her hazel eyes squinted as she surveyed the area slowly, picking out a couple of people there going through training as well, before she ventured forward. It wasn't an alotted class time, but Melody wanted to get something done, before she rotted away in her room.
Music training? Nah, she did that way too often with Kirk anyway, she wasn't for lack of training in that area. No, what she needed to work on, was her ability to create and bend fire. The creation, she had no problem with. The bending... now, that's a question she's trying to solve. Hurting someone wasn't a problem, and if she keeps a calm head, Melody can singe the head off anyone. But she had a wish, to be able to create art out of her flames. Melody was a naturally artistically inclined person. Not the drawing type, but just creative stuff in general, so just creating fire wasn't enough for her.
Slipping the bracelet off her wrist, she tied up her hair in a scrunchie she had kept in her pocket. Standing in the middle of an open space with no one around her in a 50 metre radius, Melody spread her legs, and then extended her right hand. Instantly, a fireball appeared in her palm, licking at air and dancing with delight as she smiled at it. Melody wasn't scared of it, why should she? With Hephaestus at her back, fire was a friend.
But she wanted more, so much more.
And so she gave it more. Exerting more pressure, she increased the flames, before her left hand too, joined in the creation. They danced before her, creating a ribbon of fire that danced and crackled around her, not touching the ground, but seemed more as if they were floating in air, their main source of energy being the girl standing in the middle. Biting her lip in concentration, Melody swung her left hand, and the left side of the flames went upwards before they suddenly evaporated, the right circlet following quickly, and the blonde haired one gave a sigh. "Damn."

The breeze played with Allie's hair as she walked the grounds. Or ran, actually. She didn't feel like doing anything else, it was like her muse was gone. She had tried to sit in her room and draw blueprints for something amazing, but it wasn't working, not now, anyway. Homework was done, so pressure there. Training itself seemed....boring. So she ran. Tennis shoes on her feet, shorts and a light blue tank and her long hair tied in a braid down her back made her in the mood for running. It allowed her to explore her mind a little deeper, think to herself, come up with something amazing. So she had been running for a while, and nothing was coming up.
She found her path to be in the area of the gifted training grounds. Allie smiled, maybe she would look up some friends, see if they were out. Maybe Adam was out here, she cold say hello. While she walked just a bit into the grounds, Allie's eyes caught something bright and fiery out of the corner of her eye. She turned at saw Melody, a gifted girl, practicing fire bending. Mel was a good kid, a great kid. Maybe a bit shy, but Allie liked the girl, she was sweet and kind. Despite the personality difference, the two had gotten pretty close. Mel was like the sister Allie never had. Allie watched Mel, and say the failed attempted to liven the fire that erupted from her hands. Fire was second nature to Allie, so much so that she burned down her house. Mel was struggling a bit and Allie knew why. Fire was pretty difficult to master. If you could keep the flames alive long enough to use them, you have to keep it under constant control. If not... well, one could burn a house down.
Allie jogged up to close the distance between the two. "Hey, Mel" Allie called out to her, grabbed her attention. Allie was breathing heavy when she came to a stop, but she had been running alot. She tried to slow down her breathing, relaxing and calming herself, lowering her blood rate. "What's up?"

Unlike the rest of the Hephaestus kids, Melody was less of the sketching out blueprints and more of thinking up what to create in the first place. Perhaps it was the effect of her other godly guardian Apollo, but the blonde haired gifted child was a very artsy person. She can draw the creations she wants, but when it comes to the more technical part of fiddling with tools to make it, Melody always went to a senior, or another Hephaestus child. As it was, she infinitely preferred the other gift she got from being blessed by Hephaestus - her ability to control fire.
She loved watching the blaze dance, lick at the oxygen providing them life, all under her control, under her flick of finger. But as good as she was, she wasn't all that good yet, and when she tried to do too much, all of her firepower just evaporated, as it had just down not so long ago.
Her face a look of annoyment and concentration as she looked down at her palms, Melody looked up when a familiar voice called her name, and a smile graced her lips when she saw who it was. Allie was a very good friend to her, better then most actually. Unlike some of the girls who dissed her for being in the Hephaestus house just because she was gifted and not a true demigod, Allie didn't mind all of that, and Melody went to the dark haired girl quite often for help at certain times, with her tinkering and creations.
"Evenin', Allie." Melody returned the greeting, as she drew her legs closer together, and returned to a normal stance of standing as the other girl approached. "Nothing really, just wanted to get some training in kick." she replied, pulling up to let her palm face skywards. "I wanted to do something like this," she said, and out of nowhere, a flaming phoenix, a tiny sized one appeared on her palm, entirely made out of fire from Melody's ability, before it dissipated. "but a larger version. Doesn't seem to be working though." she finished, biting her lip as she observed both of her palms again.

Allie watched the small, miniature figure of a phoenix liven up in Mel's hand. She gave the girl a lot of credit. Allie could create anything, but she wasn't creative in any other means. Sure, Allie considered herself one of the most talented mechs in the cabin, but ask her to play an instrument, or paint a pretty picture... most of the time, the instrument would be taken apart and tried to be made into something else, and the painting would turn into another sketch for something she wanted to make. Melody was wonderful at the creative stuff.
Allie paused for a moment and considered Mel's dilemma. With a exhaling breath, Allie's hands ignited and slowly enveloped her arms giving her wings of the sort. With a swinging of her arms up, the entire back of her burst into a wall of flames. Getting the fire out was no problem, it was getting the shape that made her struggle. As quickly as it came, Allie made the flames dissipate and shrink back into her palms. "It's a pretty idea...." Allie considered what may be holding Mel back. Like she just did, getting the size of the flame was no biggy. She held out her hand and tried to replicate the same thing Mel did, sure enough, she could do the same size, but the shape wasn't as sharp as Mel's. That answered her question.
"So you can get the shape good enough, it's just that you can't conjure up enough fire to make it big?" Allie asked, wondering if that is really what it was. Shape may not be her forte, but when it comes to large fires, Allie was perfect for the job.

Taking a step back as Allie seem to take her problem in to her own hands, Melody didn't take that step out of precaution. Being gifted by Hephaestus, and much like the rest of the Hephaestus dorm, she had a high tolerence for heat. The step back was merely so the girl could take in the image clearer, and take it in she did. Her hazel eyes watched as the fire was emitted, but not shaped in a way how Melody found it easy, yet at the same time the blonde haired girl wished she would be able to expand the fire as easily as Allie did so.
Returning to her previous spot as the fire dissipated, again Melody was shown how unlike the rest of the Hephaestus cabin, she could project the image she wanted well enough. Expanding it was the main problem right about now. Nodding when Allie asked, Melody expanded. "Its more like, when I want to do both at the same time, one or the other seems to fail me." she replied, biting her lip as she did so. Doing this may seem like a waste of time to others, but Melody liked it. The idea in her head was to create a larger then life figure which looked terrifyingly horrible, if only to scare away enemies they might face.
Stepping back again to try, she extended her right arm, and willed her inner flames outwards, encasing her whole arm before letting it spread across her other arm now held up as well. Once they began to resemble poles of fire, she expanded it slowly, easily shaping each flaming feather on her wrought wings. Getting it larger however, proved to be difficult. And good gods, she hadn't even gotten to the part of creating the phoenixes head either. Biting her lip in a form of concentration, she forcefully tried to expand the flames, only to let out a sigh when they evaporated all of a sudden.
Shaking her head in exasperation, the girl ran a hand through her blonde locks. "This is never going to work.".
